These are literally the "False Cypresses". Chamaecyparis is a widespread genus with a very wide range of forms available.
Chamaecyparis nootkatensis - Nootka Cypress. Native of North West
America. Coastal. Likes high humidity. The foliage is dull green and coarse to touch. For
large garden. Noted for its extreme hardiness and ability to thrive in damp, low lying
ground. Not well known but a very handsome tree. A beautiful specimen that becomes more
pendulous with age. 2.5 metres high x 2 metres wide in 10 years in our
Nursery/Garden. Zone 4.

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Crippsii' - (Johnson's Form). This Conifer has now been renamed - Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Pasadena'. Pasadena is a suburb in Auckland where Mr. Johnson had his Nursery. In discussion with a current staff member of Totara Grove Nurseries who worked with Mr. Johnson, it was decided to call this wonderful cultivar after that area still known to some in the Auckland region.
